Virtual Online Proctoring with Proctorio

Salt Lake Community College, along with several other Utah colleges/universities, has partnered with Proctorio, a remote proctoring service that works within your web browser to monitor test takers for suspicious behaviors. Proctorio seamlessly integrates with Canvas.

Note: Beginning Fall semester 2021, Proctorio will be available for fully online and broadcast courses only. Instructors of online and broadcast courses will also be able to use the instructional testing centers to administer their exams. For more information about testing services, please visit the Academic Testing Services page found in the left navigational menu.

Proctorio Benefits

Students access virtual proctoring remotely in Canvas (no need to go to campus).

  • Proctorio authenticates the student’s ID at the beginning of the exam to ensure that the person taking the exam has the correct user credentials.
  • Instructors control the level of security by setting their own preferences as to how the exam session will be monitored.
  • Audio/Video algorithms detect open book/notes/browser activity, other people in the room, and unusual behaviors (e.g. looking off screen repeatedly).
  • After the exam, Proctorio provides a log of potentially suspicious behavior for the instructor to review. Assistance with this is available from testing center staff if desired.
  • Proctorio offers convenience and cost savings for students. Students may test at any time of the day or night and pay no additional fees for the service.

Proctorio System Requirements

  • Chrome Browser
  • Chrome Proctorio Extension
  • Web Camera
  • Microphone

Proctorio Support

Proctorio's software is easy to use, but if there is an issue, technical support is available 24/7/365 via chat, email, phone, and SMS. Additionally, faculty and student guides are available online.
