Faculty, who create and provide education, scholarship, service, are the backbone of any college or university. Through the faculty's teaching at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), we (i.e., the faculty) have the greatest amount of contact, impact and inspiration on our students. However, our work does not stop in the classroom. I strongly believe that as a faculty, we also have a responsibility and integrity to serve SLCC and the community as a whole. I am committed to SLCC and want to do everything I can to further the mission, vision, and values.
Faculty Senate gives faculty just such a service opportunity outside of the classroom to further the mission, vision, and values. Faculty Senate serves as an inclusive place to bring faculty together across the college and engage in meaningful dialogue about curriculum, governance, and our goals and values as a college. Faculty have the collaborative opportunity to ask questions, share their expertise, learn, and provide input in a trusting environment. Through this dialogue, we make SLCC better.
I have the great honor of serving as the President of Faculty Senate. I want Faculty Senate to be a place where we have substantial conversations and hear from diverse voices and opinions. I want Senators to leave each meeting with a deeper understanding of the issues, their colleagues, and the institution. I want Senate to be a powerful body that influences the direction and decisions of the college. I also want Senate to be a safe and enjoyable place.
Please, let me know anything I can do to further these goals and further the goals of SLCC.
Gabe Byars
Faculty Senate, President
